“Mobile Patient Wayfinding”

7/17/15  Back

Our July 17th meeting of Health TechNet was held at Teqcorner in McLean, VA and featured a discussion of “Mobile Patient Wayfinding”---- the increasing use of indoor GPS, RFID and Bluetooth tracking systems to improve patient care and safety. The program was moderated by healthcare IT consultant Dr. Joe Bormel and included two speakers who are involved in this new technology: 1) Robert Tabb, Director of Accounts for Phunware, which offers a dynamic new way to engage with patients before, during and after hospital visits. Using the latest smartphone capabilities and location-based technology like beacons and indoor Wi-Fi, Phunware’s mobile solutions empower providers to engage with patients on their phones in real time. 2) Roger Stull, Director of Business Development for Creative Information Technology, Inc. (C.I.T.I.) on GPS/RFID tagging and tracking solutions being implemented in a DoD health facility. We also discussed the impact of the recent Supreme Court decision on the Affordable Care Act and the implications of a number of consolidating mergers and acquisitions in the health insurance industry, including the recently announced proposed acquisition of Humana by Aetna.
