Our meeting on November 21st was held at Nelson Mullins’ offices on Capitol Hill from noon to 2 pm. It focused on “Ebola Preparation- HIT Challenges and Opportunities.” Preparation for treatment of Ebola patients is of paramount concern to the nation’s hospitals, and technology plays an important role in these preparations and other aspects of disaster preparedness, especially in the D.C. area.

Our presentation and discussion was led by Dr. David Yi, the Chief Medical Information Officer of Virginia Hospital Center. As CMIO, Dr. Yi is responsible for bridging the medical and IT departments in the hospital system and implementing informatics concepts to meet clinical and organizational goals. Dr. Yi has held previous roles as Physician IT Consultant, Medical Director of the VHC Hospitalist Group as well as a Hospitalist.

A brief presentation was also given by Michael Slage, the Executive Director of LiftOff Health, a new incubator for healthcare startups in the D.C. area. LiftOff is embarking on some fascinating initiatives on a global scale, and offers to supplement Health TechNet’s ongoing efforts to assist growth stage companies.
