Our meeting on October 19, 2012 featured a discussion of the overwhelming challenges facing physician practices in the current environment, including implementation of information technology, dealing with increased patient knowledge and critiques, government regulations and compliance, and claims processing issues, among many others.
The discussion was led by Lauri Rustand, CEO of Fairfax Family Practice Centers and Kevin Harlen, COO of Capital Digestive Care. Both organizations are multi-location, multiple physician practices. Fairfax Family Practice Centers are general medicine practices. Capital Digestive contains specialty practices focused on gastroenterology. We were joined in the discussion by various other physicians in the Washington, DC area who are facing these challenges.
David Main also discussed the pre-election climate in federal healthcare policy, especially on Capitol Hill, based on recent meetings with staff and members preparing for the next session of an uncertain Congress.
