Technology to Meet Patient Needs in the Age of Coronavirus

4/17/20  Back

Our April 17 meeting of HealthTechNet, which was a Zoom call, focused on “Technologies and Approaches to Meeting Patient Needs in the Age of the Coronavirus.” We discussed and evaluated various healthcare technologies, including significantly enhanced opportunities to use telemedicine in the current stay-at-home environment.

Our speakers included Marty Rosendale, CEO of the Maryland Technology Council, who talked about the efforts underway by the Maryland tech community to develop tools to combat the COVID-19 virus.

In addition, we also heard from Trish Markus, a partner with Nelson Mullins, who covered some of the numerous recent developments in the area of telemedicine resulting in part from the recent passage of the CARES Act, which has removed a number of legal and regulatory barriers to using telemedicine across state lines and with improved provider reimbursement.

We also heard some observations from a local healthcare provider on the implementation status and challenges of using telemedicine platforms for patient care, as well as reimbursement problems.
